The Wingstem is a plant native to North America and often found in the Piedmont of North Carolina. You’ve probably seen large patches of it on NC hiking trails like I have. I looked up this plant on the NC Extension website to find it described as “thrives without lore”.
To me that’s a fitting analogy for the people who show up everyday, at the office, at the hospital, at construction sites, etc and do their work without complaint, without winning awards and accolades. They just show up, like the reliable Wingstem.
When I went back to check that I’d read the NC extension’s website correctly I no longer found the same description. I searched the internet only to find nothing—it was gone!
I may never know what happened but I’ll always appreciate that anonymous person who decided one day to publish an unexpectedly poetic description for the humble old Wingstem.
