Work with me
I’ve been designing responsive web applications since 2016, and I spent the 10 years before that designing websites. I strongly believe that every digital project can benefit from the input and oversight of a designer. To see my work visit my UX portfolio. If you really want to dive in, check out my resume (pdf).
What kinds of projects could we do together?
Design a User Interface that works for your users
When I design a user interface I take note of your requirements, your branding, what digital experience you may already have and any research on hand. I pay attention to your goals for your organization and what you want for the user.
Once I have the context for the project I typically create a wire frame to map out all of the content, and once that’s approved, I create a clickable prototype in Figma or any other tool of your choice. We can go through multiple rounds of feedback to get the experience that meets your needs. I usually deliver my designs to a developer through Figma with notes about accessibility and interactivity. I’ve found that reviewing the live web app or website once it’s built can increase the likelihood that the experience works the we envisioned.
Note: I am not a developer so I don’t build web apps or websites. If you need an informational website that you can later update yourself, I can create that site in Squarespace and teach you how to use it.
Find opportunities to improve your app or website
Have you ever wondered whether your website or web application is easy to use? Could it be better than it is currently?
One option we can use to find out is a Heuristic Evaluation, which is really just a fancy name for a review by a UX’er.
A heuristic evaluation is a usability inspection method in which a small group of experts reviews a digital product—such as a website, app, or software—against a set of established usability principles, known as heuristics. These heuristics, often based on Jakob Nielsen’s 10 Usability Heuristics, help identify usability issues and areas for improvement. Evaluators analyze elements like navigation, consistency, error prevention, and user control to pinpoint problems that might hinder a seamless user experience.
This method is valuable because it provides a cost-effective and efficient way to detect usability issues early in the design process, before investing in extensive user testing. Since heuristic evaluations rely on expert analysis, they can quickly uncover common design flaws, inconsistencies, and potential pain points that real users might face. By addressing these issues proactively, organizations can improve user satisfaction, reduce development costs, and create more intuitive and accessible digital experiences.
The deliverable for a heuristic evaluation is a report that presents my findings and lists recommendations sorted by items that are high value and low effort.
Add or improve features based on user feedback
Maybe you already know how to improve the site or have heard from users or others but don’t have the resources to translate the input to the user interface. I can help with that. I have extensive experience improving web apps or sites based on feedback of many types. I will work within your brand and even use your design system if you have one. I don’t believe in creating snowflakes—I think it’s more important to improve the user experience, which often relies on using elements that are part of your brand and also proven to work.
I would be happy to talk about other tasks you might have on your mind. If I don’t feel that I’m the right person for what you need I will be transparent about that and will do my best of help you find alternate options.
