NC Native Buttonbush

I drew this native Buttonbush branch with some buds and a flower because I think they’re so interesting to look at. Each flower is like a little space ship on a branch. I tried and failed to grow one in my backyard in Durham, NC but ran into one over the weekend growing along the edge of a pond.

I took a crack at this very intricate flower (see bottom of page) but it wasn’t quite detailed enough so I came up with a second version which is what you see below.

These black and white illustrations were created using Adobe Illustrator. The benefit of using Illustrator to create this intricate flower is that we can now easily change the line color and size making it possible to use it digitally or print it on virtually any material.

This is version 1 which, I think, is less detailed and a little more abstract.
